How To Prepare A Real Estate Property For A Drone Photography Session

Drone Photography has changed the ability of Real Estate Agents to truly grab the attention of a prospective buyer. When buyers are looking through listings, an aerial photo of a home will instantly stand out from all the same old front yard views. The exterior of the property is one of the first things a buyer will look at when researching a listing, so it is important that the outside of the home is in good shape, free of clutter, and presentable. Proper staging will always give you the most bang for your buck, however, real estate aerial drone photography and videography can easily make the difference between grabbing a prospect’s attention, and having them just view your listing as just another house. Look at the images below. Which one grabs your attention first?Aerial Drone Photography for Real EstateWith the amount of Realtors that are now taking advantage of the benefits of aerial photography and aerial videography for property listings, it is important to understand how to properly prepare a property for a drone photography session. Below is a checklist that should make things much easier on you, and provide a smooth session for the photographer, and realtor alike.

Realtor Checklist for Preparation of Aerial Photography Session

  • Make sure the yard and landscaping are clean, fresh, and presentable. Bushes should be trimmed, grass should be freshly mowed, etc.
  • All garage doors, front doors, and back doors should be closed.
  • Cover dirt with mulch to make it look more attractive
  • Arrange all window coverings to be uniform.
  • Clean Porches, Outdoor furniture, etc.
  • Remove or hide visible water hoses
  • Clean up any kids/pets toys in the yard
  • Clean and uncover grill (Grills with covers typically look bad from the air)
  • Hide trash cans
  • If the property has a pool, make sure the water is clean, and any pumps, pool cleaning supplies, etc. are hidden. Also, if the pool is covered, whenever possible, it should be uncovered and cleaned.
  • Open any outdoor umbrellas
  • Make sure any roofing issues have been addressed before the day of the session
  • Remove all cars from the driveway and/or yard

Realtor Checklist During Filming of Aerial Photo or Video Session

  • The property should be clear of all other people. (Gardeners, landscapers, contractors, other photographers, etc.)
  • Whenever possible, the current homeowners should not be home during the session.
  • If the current homeowners refuse to leave during the session, a safety briefing must be conducted prior to session.
  • If this is a twilight or sunset session, ensure that all exterior lights, water fountains, pool lights, etc. are turned on, and working. Sometimes, we recommend that you turn the interior lights of the home on. (Interior lights being on is on a case-by-case basis)

A little common sense goes a long way when preparing the property for an aerial real estate photo shoot, or video shoot using drones. Sometimes, it is required for the real estate agent to be on site for the duration of filming/photography. In this case, we will work with you to ensure safety, and quick work. If you follow this simple checklist, your aerial real estate listing photo shoot should go very quick and smooth.  If you are a realtor in the Raleigh, NC, or triangle area, be sure to contact us today for your aerial photography and aerial drone videography needs.

Drones Creating New Aerial Light Show Experiences

I think we can all agree that Disney is most often at the forefront of immersive experiences. It was only a matter of time before they figured out the first of many ways that they will use drone technology to wow audiences. With everything from the first animatronic characters to the ingenious other creations of imagineers, we are often captivated by the magic that is Disney.

This was the first-of-its-kind light show. It features 300 Intel Shooting Star drones, all synchronized to create the magic that you see in the videos below. The drone light show is best viewed from the water side of the WestSide district, however, it can be seen across all of Disney Springs.

Due to drone battery limitations, the shows are limited in length. It is said that Disney is considering 3-4 showings an evening. It makes a perfect before-dinner or after-dinner show and is expected to increase the amount of time that people stay in the park, eat, and shop.

We also saw an example of a synchronized drone light show at Superbowl LI, featuring Lady Gaga singing

God Bless America.  Starting to see the possibilities? They are really endless.

With the technology that Intel has pioneered, coupled with the power of drones, you will begin to see more and more of these fascinating aerial light shows all around the world. As battery technology advances and drone technology, itself, advances, the sky is really the limit as to what can be done. (Yes, I get the pun!)

Drones are changing the way people view the world on a daily basis. They are not going away and they are making it easier and easier to capture a new perspective on things. (Literally) In later blog posts, we will discuss how drones are impacting emergency search and rescue missions. Where do you think drone technology is going in regards to entertainment, immersive experiences, light shows, etc? Can you imagine drone videography of a drone light show? That would be amazing!
